The Institute for the Development of Social Investment (Instituto para o Desenvolvimento do Investimento Social) is a civil society organization founded in 1999 by Brazilian social entrepreneurs with support from the WK Kellogg Foundation. IDIS’ objective is to contribute to the reduction of social inequalities by promoting the engagement of companies, families, individuals and communities in strategic social initiatives that can make a difference.
For IDIS, social investment is the voluntary and strategic allocation of financial, human, or in kind resources for public benefit. To generate impact and promote social transformation, social investment needs to be based on research, strategic planning and monitoring, and evaluation of results.
Based in São Paulo, IDIS provides consultancy and technical support to companies, families, and communities who wish to invest in social projects and programs in an efficient and effective way.
IDIS has supported over 60 clients in Brazil and Latin America, such as AVON, BASF, ABN AMRO Bank, Gerdau Group, Camargo Correa Group, World Childhood Foundation – Brazil, and Fundación Arcor.
In 2005 IDIS became a CAF International Network partner organization, supporting work in Latin America. CAF International Network has offices in Russia, South Africa, UK, IDIS (Brazil), United States of America, Australia, Bulgaria and Índia
