Introduction to the Partner

The Corporate Responsibility Institute (CR Institute) is a non-profit business organization established in 2008, when it partnered with the BITC (Business in the Community) to exclusively represent the Corporate Responsibility Index (CR Index) in Greece. The CR Institute has been running the CR INDEX in Greece for 5 consecutive years (CR Index 2008 – 2012), with more than 25 leading Greek and multinational companies operating in Greece having been awarded with CR Index Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. These companies occupy thousands of employees and play a decisive role in the Greek financial market. In 2012, their total revenue reached €24 billion, accounted for 7,85% of their country’s GNP.
The Corporate Responsibility Institute is run by a nine member Board. Founding members of the CR Institute are the PRC Group and the Centre for Sustainability and Excellence.

CR Institute’s main objectives:

  • To provide Greek companies and organizations with the CR Index, a globally recognized assessment and benchmarking tool, as a reference for putting their CSR strategy on the right track and measuring their performance in CSR related areas.
  • To further promote CSR in Greece, as well as assist Greek companies to globally position themselves in the CSR field.
  • To assist Greek companies to integrate responsible business practices as a part of their core business strategy and everyday operation.
  • To support Greek companies in identifying strengths and weaknesses in their strategy, practice and performance, as well as pointing out potential areas of improvement.

The above are materialised through:

  • Continuous updating and communication of information on CSR issues via the CR institute’s national and international partners.
  • Transfer, adaptation and dissemination of best practices in the area of Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility.
  • Organization of roundtables and workshops in order to create networking opportunities with business, NGOs, academia etc.

CR Institute’s current priorities are to:

  • Raise awareness among the Greek business community for the significance of incorporating CSR into business strategy and practice.
  • Disseminate CSR to Greek SMEs via their participation into a CR INDEX light version.
  • Create long term synergies with government, public administration authorities, NGOs and professional associations aimed at jointly promoting CSR throughout the public and private sectors.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions for teaching best CSR practices in business universities.
  • Participate in joint research projects with academic institutions, leveraging the data acquired via the 5 years of CR INDEX in Greece.
  • Establish and Run a “Sustainable Leadership Forum” to recognize and reward the personal achievements of CSR practitioners in Greece.
  • Develop its advisory services towards the business community (e.g. mapping of credible NGO partners in CSR activations).

We have a deep passion for seeing really dynamic effective corporate responsibility all over the world - it's core to our values and central to our business. So being in from the start with CSR360 GPN was an obvious route for KPMG to help spread the energy and the opportunity for transformed communities where business plays its rightful role driving change and supporting the people and the places who are often forgotten and frequently in need of business engagement. Its our privilege to be involved.
