Posted: Friday 4 September 09, 7.00am GMT

AccionRSE, core partners of the CSR360 Global Partner Network have kicked September off with a double dose of activity. Not only have they established the networks and key drivers to take on the ENGAGE employee volunteering programme but they have also launched the climate change campaign, developed by Business in the Community (BITC) – The May Day Network.

BITC’s own CEO Stephen Howard was there to witness the event. He said, “I am delighted that Business in the Community’s May Day Network and ENGAGE has been embraced by our Chilean partner, AccionRSE. Sharing best practise is what the CSR360 Global Partner Network is all about. I am sure that Rafael and his team at AccionRSE will excel at driving these two initiatives forward.

It reiterates the fact that in this fast changing world, responsible business has no borders!

The two day CSR Conference, perhaps the largest of its kind in Chile was held in Santiago and attended by over 500 people. It brought together delegates from business, NGO´s, government and the academic world. This year it was titled “The 4Ps of the 21st century business’: permanence = profit + people + planet”

The first of the BITC programmes launched was ENGAGE, which encourages companies to work collaboratively in supporting employee volunteering in local communities. Established 5 years ago, the programme is already running successfully across 9 cities in Europe, and in Dubai and Hong Kong, so with the launch in Chile this is a first for Latin America.

The May Day Network was launched on day 2, which is focused on climate change and the role which businesses can play individually and together to mitigate carbon emissions, innovate towards the future low carbon economy and adapt to inevitable climate change. It is led by, and very much a priority for BITC’s President HRH The Prince of Wales, who visited Chile earlier this year.

Stephen Howard said at the event,

Climate change is the most important challenge of our time and it can bring many opportunities for business and business leaders.

Rafael Quiroga, CEO of AccionRSE, visited Business in the Community earlier this year to learn more about its activities and projects, and was particularly interested in The May Day Network and the ENGAGE project. He was inspired and recognised the potential of taking these ideas and developing them for the Chilean market. Together with the support of BITC and AccionRSE’s own member companies, Rafael has ignited the fuse for change.

Rafael Quiroga said during the May Day event that,

We want to make a strong call to all business to measure, report, manage and encourage its employees, suppliers and clients to lower their carbon emissions and join this lead businesses network.

AccionRSE hopes that each project will become concrete initiatives very soon and that they will follow the success of the UK and Europe. They believe that they will allow AccionRSE to offer their member companies´ very useful resources to advance in their CSR strategies, contributing to the creation of a more sustainable society.
