The second Seeing is Believing visit takes place in Bangalore, India

Posted: Friday 20 June 08, 8.38am GMT

The Global Partner's Network arranged its second Seeing is Believing (SIB) visit in Bangalore, India which ran from the 17-19 of April. There were 10 delegates from India and the UK participating in the event, which aimed to promote corporate social responsibility (CSR) as an integral part of successful business behaviour in India.

The visit was an opportunity for business delegates to encounter first hand the local cultural and social context in which businesses operate, and was jointly organised with the Bangalore Chamber of Industry of Commerce, Indian Institute of Management and Bangalore and Partners in Change (PiC). The Global Partners Network are very grateful for the support received by TATA Consultancy Services and Oracle.

Mutual benefit

The Seeing is Believing format aims to provide an introduction to local social issues that exist and the solutions and support that business can offer – which can be of mutual benefit to both the businesses and the communities.

The visit highlighted projects and examples of ways in which businesses have already made a difference in Bangalore, and the delegates had an opportunity to visit the projects run by Association of People with Disability (APD), Freedom Foundation, Milana, Accept and the Hope Foundation.

Participants enthused and challenged

The participants were enthused and challenged to hear the first hand account from the people with disabilities and children and women affected by HIV/AIDs.

The day after the visit, delegates participated in an organised dialogue where they discussed insights from the previous day and possible ideas that they were interested in pursuing.

Delegates from the UK had a particular insight into the environment and community context in which businesses in India operate.
