Posted: Friday 13 April 12, 8.16am GMT

Sedex is pleased to announce that has joined the United Nations (UN) Global Compact.

The UN Global Compact is a platform for business and non-business entities to proactively network and engage in areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption in order to achieve the common objectives of building a sustainable and inclusive global economy.

As a non-business signatory of the Global Compact, Sedex will offer knowledge and thought leadership in shaping special initiatives and workstreams; developing tools and research; reviewing international labour standards; furthering partnership projects; and helping to hold business accountable with respect to their commitments to the Global Compact and its ten principles.

Sedex General Manager Carmel Giblin said “We are delighted to have become signatories of the UN Global Compact and will use our influence to advance its ten principles and drive real improvements for workers worldwide”.

The Global Compact has more than 8,000 participants spread across 130 countries and is constantly expanding its reach and enhancing opportunities for engagement. For more information please visit the Global Compact website.

UNGC UK Network

Sedex has recently expanded its relationship with the UNGC, by joining the UNGC UK Local Network.

Global Compact Local networks are clusters of participants in this voluntary corporate citizenship initiative. Local Networks help to root the Global Compact within different national contexts and promote the Global Compact’s 10 principles.

The UK Network serves as a focal point of co-ordination and communication for its members and its key goals include: to enable participants to share and exchange good practice and experience; to provide input to the Global Compact on its future development and activity; and to promote the Global Compact principles throughout the UK business community and around the world.
