Posted: Wednesday 18 May 11, 2.56pm GMT

The Kuramo Foundation, African Business and The Centre for Corporate Governance of the Institute for Directors, have partnered with ThistlePraxis Consulting to host the Africa CEO Roundtable & Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility (AR-CSR™).

The AR-CSR™, with the theme: ‘The Business Case for CSR and its Impact on African Economies’ is an industry flagship event attracting the crème of Africa’s leading figures and decision-makers to immediately spark off conversations and discussions about Corporate Social Responsibility in Africa.

Ireland’s First Female President, Mary Robinson and Professor N. Craig Smith, a Chaired Professor on Business Ethics and Corporate Responsibility from INSEAD; who lead a group of seasoned professionals across the continent and beyond converging on Lagos, Nigeria between June 15-17, 2011 will lead counterparts from Europe, UK and the USA for peer reviews and best practices on CSR.

ThistlePraxis Consulting, a multi-disciplinary CSR and Management Consulting firm are the organizers of this epoch-making event. The Lead Consultant and CEO of the firm, Ini Onuk stated that “TPC has identified the needs and gaps and therefore provides this platform to engage professionals, stakeholders from all over Africa working on issues of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility with a view to creating an operational framework as well as set an agenda towards achieving best practice models that organizations in Nigeria and other African countries can work with”.

The series of events scheduled to take place include: a high-level CEO Roundtable session strictly for CEOs, GEDs, Captains of Industries and Board Chairmen around the continent. This will be followed by a two-day conference that will be open to participation by all interested professionals.

Some other speakers scheduled to participate at this agenda-setting event include: Dr. Wayne Visser, Founder, CSR International, Dr. Melsa Ararat; Director, Corporate Governance Forum of Turkey, Sune Skadegaard Thorsen; Partner/Director, Global CSR, Reanna Rossouw, Next Generation Consultants, South Africa and Soumya Saklani, MD, Millward Brown West Africa.

The evolution of CSR and the emphasis on sustainability in business enterprises has elevated the desperate need to move from doing business for the sake of profit margins alone to doing business with an underlying aim to achieve social impact – which in turn affects the profit bottomline.

So far, the response to the AR-CSR™ has been overwhelming which according to the organisers signify it is a timely intervention for the african business climate. Ini Onuk also re-iterates that, “we are presenting a platform to engage professionals, stakeholders from all over Africa working on issues of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Nigerian counterparts featuring in this epoch-making event will include: Thelma Ekiyor; Executive Director/CEO, TY Danjuma Foundation, Tunji Adeyinka; CEO, Connect Marketing, Prof. Chris Ogbechie, Director, CSR Centre, Pan-African University, Ken Amaeshi, Edinburgh Business School, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui – Okauru, Exec.
