Learn To Grow – Teaching Volunteering to Children is the title of the book launched in Lisbon on 20 June.
This GRACE initiative, involved asking employees from its member companies to tell a story to raise awareness to 6-10-year-old children about volunteering. GRACE’s President, Conceição Zagalo, explains the philosophy behind the book: “Volunteering can be the ideal bridge between different generations that have in common efforts to develop a more equal society”.
The book is divided into two. One half consists of company employees telling stories of volunteering to children, with a foreword by Alice Vieira, one of the best-known Portuguese writers of children’s books. The other half features children from social institutions which have benefitted from GRACE’s corporate volunteering initiatives describing their vision of volunteering. This has a foreword by the President of the National Council for the Promotion of Volunteering (CNPV), Elza Chambel.
The 17 stories in the book were selected by a jury, made up of Alice Vieira, Elza Chambel, a representative of Kidzania Portugal, Marta Amorim, a children’s books illustrator Graça Pereira da Cruz, and GRACE’s President Conceição Zagalo.
Many of GRACE’s members took part. These included Alcatel-Lucent, ANA Airports, BP Portugal, Delta Cafés, Eurest, EDP Foundation, Galp Energia, GRAFE, Group CH, H Tecnic, IBM Portugal, Inforpress, Intertek Labtest, Linklaters, Montepio, Pousadas de Portugal and YoungNetwork.
