Dubai Chamber organises its largest employee volunteering event

Over 1,206 volunteers from 29 companies contributed 4,279 hours to 57 community projects with 17 community organizations that benefitted 2,729 people during the annual Give & Gain event

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Centre for Responsible Business recently organised its annual Give & Gain Day, the largest employee volunteering event in the UAE, as part of the Engage Dubai programme.

Participating for the seventh consecutive year, ENGAGE Dubai mobilised employees to volunteer during work hours in schools, universities, local charities and community groups, to make a real difference in their societies.

The 7th annual Give & Gain event was organised between May 14th and 18th of 2017 by the Centre in alignment with the National Strategy of the Year of Giving in the UAE that aims to promote a culture of volunteerism. Over 1,206 volunteers from 29 companies contributed 4,279 hours to 57 community projects with 17 community organizations that benefitted 2,729 people. Here are this year achievements:

  • 57% increase in volunteers over 2016
  • 154% increase in volunteering Hours over 2016
  • 108% increase of Beneficiaries covered over 2016
  • 11.5% increase in no. of companies participating over 2016
  • 22 Engage Dubai Volunteering Projects Promoted
  • Got 10 Media Coverages

Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector at Dubai Chamber, said: “This initiative falls in line with Dubai Chamber’s objectives to support the UAE’s Year of Giving and promote a culture of social responsibility and volunteerism within the local business community. Volunteering is the cornerstone of corporate social responsibility, and a very effective way of encouraging companies to engage with their communities and make a positive contribution.”

During Give & Gain Day 2017, participants contributed to a wide variety of projects and initiatives, including cooking, arts and crafts and jewellery making workshops with students, reading sessions at local schools, and other educational activities.

Community institutions that participated in the initiative included Al Noor Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities, Friends of Cancer Patients, Manzil, and University of Dubai, among several others.

Participating companies included Michelin, du, Blue LLC, Dulsco, DP World, Al Futtaim Carillion, NMC Trading, GE, Mashreq, among many others representing a variety of sectors.

Launched in 2008 by Dubai Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business, ENGAGE Dubai is an international programme which brings together businesses and community organisations in Dubai to increase the quality and amount of employee community engagement in their local communities. The programme currently has 128 corporate members and 40 community partners.
