A round up of recent news from Iranian partners CSR Iran

Publishing the first CSR Country Report of Iran (Aug 2009)
Being divided in the three sections of corporate social responsibility, corporate governance and business ethics, this report reflects the current standing of responsible business activities of Iranian companies. Based on desktop research and a survey from 30 companies, this report highlights current drivers and trends in CSR and areas where CSR is more prominent in the Iranian companies.

First Iran-Turkey CSR Roundtable Meeting (Istanbul 23, 24 Oct 2009)
With the aim of accelerating CSR Practices in Iran and Turkey, CSR Iran arranged attendance of 15 Iranian managers, academia and civil society organization with good track record in CSR practices to the first CSR Marketplace in Turkey and a roundtable meeting both organized by CSR Association of Turkey. The Iranian team met a team of Turkish businessmen, academia, journalists, UNDP representatives, and civil society organizations in the roundtable meeting. Several aspects from their understanding from the concept, organizational support from CSR, Reporting on CSR, drivers of CSR where compared between the two country representatives.

Holding CSR Conference in Tehran (26 May 2010)
The conference lecturers where selected from prominent individuals from civil society, business associations and academia. Benchmark Iranian CSR case studies were also presented in the conference. The recently CSR Iran’s published “Public-Private Partnership Handbook” including domestic case studies was distributed among the conference participants. The conference program included workshops on ISO26000 and sustainable development

Holding CSR Marketplace (26 and 27May 2010)
With 30 NGOs and companies attending, the Marketplace brought MNCs like Unilever, Hyundai, and SGS, Iranian companies from several sectors of car manufacturing, rail and shipping transportation, FMCG producers, Carpet Industry, NGOs, charities and civil society organizations together to present their CSR practices and network. Best CSR performers were selected at the end of the event using majority voting from the visitors of the marketplace.
The event was attended by high officials from the government, business community, business school students, and a team of 10 from Turkish business people and media activists. The event was broadcasted in prominent national news agencies.

Second Iran-Turkey CSR Roundtable Meeting (Tehran 26 May 2010)
With the aim of accelerating CSR Practices in Iran and Turkey, CSR Iran organized the second Iran-Turkey CSR roundtable meeting in Iran Chamber of Commerce between Iranian managers, academia and civil society organization and a team of Turkish businessmen. Rationale behind allocating to CSR in organizations, organizational structure of CSR initiatives, and comparison of Philanthropy and CSR activities were among the key topics discussed in the meeting.

CSR Site Visits
CSR Iran organized site visits for Turkish businessmen to participate in site visits to Mahak Institute (a reputable Iranian NGO with huge investments for caring for children below 14 suffering from cancer), and Mashhad Carpet Co. CSR practices in the city of Mashhad. (Mashhad Carpet allocates 5 percent of its annual profit for good causes from building schools, vocational training centers, and care facilities for the disabled)
