Businesses tackling health inequalities

Posted: Wednesday 8 July 09, 2.08pm GMT

EDF Energy, Royal Mail, BUPA and Serco were among more than 20 Business in the Community members that contributed to three Marmot Review Policy Dialogues held throughout June and early July 2009.

The dialogues took place at the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal Society. Delegates included representatives from business, academia, policy and government. Businesses’ involvement in this process signifies the key role that the private sector can play in addressing health inequalities.

Dr Margaret Samuel, Chief Medical Officer at EDF Energy, presented on ‘An Upstream Approach to Stress Management’, which illustrated how employers can take action on the agenda.

Dr Su Wang, Group Head of Health at the Royal Mail Group, gave a presentation on their ‘Feeling First Class’ Wellbeing programme. The programme demonstrated an employer’s role in promoting ‘good work’.
