BITC programmes ENGAGE and May Day to launch in Chile

Posted: Friday 21 August 09, 2.28pm GMT

CSR360 Global Partner Network organisation, AccionRSE, are running a major CSR conference on 1st and 2nd September in Santiago, Chile, during which they will launch two key programmes developed by Business in the Community (BITC).

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of BITC will be attending and speaking at two of the keynote sessions. The conference, this year titled “The 4Ps of the 21st century business’: permanence = profit + people + planet” is one of the biggest event on CSR in Chile. Last year it gathered around 500 people and AccionRSE are hoping to increase that number this year.

The first programme to be launched is ENGAGE, which encourages companies to work collaboratively in supporting employee volunteering in local communities. Established 5 years ago, the programme is already running successfully across 11 cities in Europe, and in addition in Dubai and Hong Kong, so with the launch in Chile this will be the first in Latin America.

The second programme is called May Day, and is focused on climate change and the role which business networks can play in mitigation and adaptation, and in the development of relevant innovative technologies. It is led by, and very much a priority for BITC’s President HRH The Prince of Wales, who visited Chile earlier this year.

Rafael Quiroga, CEO of AccionRSE, visited Business in the Community earlier this year to learn more about its activities and projects, and was particularly interested in the May Day Network and the ENGAGE project. He then decided to attend the May Day event in London, accompanied by the CEOs of three important Chilean companies.

AccionRSE hopes that each project will become concrete initiatives very soon and that they will follow the success of the UK and Europe. They believe that they will allow them to offer their member companies´ very useful resources to advance in their CSR strategies, contributing to the creation of a more sustainable society.
