THE BEST VOLUNTEERS OF 2011 KOÇ HOLDİNG GARANTİ BANK AND BİLİM PHARMACEUTICALS RECEIVED THEIR AWARD

The Corporate Volunteers Association of Turkey (CVA) awarded many companies at its Fifth Annual “Awards from the Heart” Ceremony, which took place in Istanbul on 1 December, 2011 at the Tekfen Towers. The awards are designed to inspire sustainable volunteer programs across Turkey.

The Koc Holding Company with its “For My Country” project recieved The Best Volunteer Program, Garanti Bank won the Best Volunteer Project with “ My Hand is With You” and Bilim Pharmaceuticals earned the Most Creative Volunteer Project with the “I Control My Career” project.

Derya Sel Bozkurt of IBM and Kadir Gokbakan of Bilim Pharmaceuticals were given the Best Volunteer Award, an honor that was bestowed upon individual employees from the CVA for the very first time. And the Special Jury Award went to Ozlem Denizmen of Dogus Holding.

Volunteering is Increasing

The CVA Board President, and CEO of Borusan Holding, Mr. Agah Ugur, pointed out that in developing communities there should be evidence of increased number of volunteer projects.

Ugur emphasised that the Awards from the Heart doesn’t only motivate volunteerism in the corporate sector. “Our goal is to support the development of our communities and to improve the quality of life. We are enjoying our fifth annual awards and proud that the number of our members has increased to 64 corporations. This means we can reach 150,000 employees of which 6000 are active volunteers.”

He also added ‘Our association is also a social platform through which our members can support and communicate with one another. Since our inception, we have tried to showcase the power of the corporate sector and increase the number of projects that make a difference. I would like to thank those companies who have recieved awards today and all those member companies who have inspired volunteer programs.”

The CVA Board Vice President, and Chairman of ARGE Consulting, Dr. Yilmaz Arguden shared his thoughts about the importance of the awards, “This year’s awards showed us that every day the number of volunteer work is on the rise and projects that demonstrate systematic sustainability and creativity, can be built upon the foundation of the volunteer spirit. We have the pleasure of witnessing that more societal issues addressed by companies, means the higher number of employees involved, as well the increased level of cooperation and synergies created.

Arguden added that “during the past five years, the concept of volunteering and its implementation areas has become widely recognized. Many creative projects have come up with solutions to address the needs of varying issues in environment, health, education, disadvantaged groups, culture and history. We would liked to share the carefully measured impact results of such projects during our awards ceremony. This year we had 19 finalists. Each one of their projects is of the quality that not only sets an example to our country, but also to the world. I would like to congratulate all our finalists.”
