Foretica holds Give & Gain in Spain for the seventh time

Posted: Wednesday 12 July 17, 11.13am GMT

Foretica in collaboration with 88 NGOs organised 107 community projects in only one week, involving 1100 volunteers from 53 companies benefitting 9000 people.

In Spain, Forética acts as an intermediary organization for companies that would like to participate in Give & Gain and also serve as a communication and visibility platform for those enterprises that already have an organized volunteering initiative within the established dates. Thus, the community partners are many and very diverse in nature.

Spain is still feeling the social consequences of a deep, profound and long economic crisis. Thus, social issues like unemployment, social exclusion, lack of access to jobs and a tremendous skills gap- especially amongst young people, are all key important issues that are being addressed by different stakeholders, including business.

In this light, Forética launched Give & Gain 2017 with the challenge of focusing efforts on supporting the eradication of problems associated with social exclusion. This is reflected in the social support nature of the activities implemented. It is worth highlighting that although they launched the initiative with this social focus, environmental activities focusing on regenerating damaged areas have also taken place during Give & Gain.

As mentioned, Forética facilitates Give & Gain activities between their member companies and community organisations but have organised a few employee volunteering activities themselves for Give & Gain, including:

  1. Reconditioning of Refugee Accommodation Centre- Reconditioning one of the refugee accommodation centres that exists in Madrid. Activities included gardening, painting and refurbishing alongside a group of refugees that are currently living in the centre. Johnson & Johnson (Pharmaceutical and Consumer Goods Company) organized the activity.
  2. Ancient Egypt Tour with Down Madrid Foundation- Educational Workshop for kids with Down Syndrome to learn about ancient Egypt supported by employee volunteers from Reale (insurance company)
  3. Environmental outing with SEO Birdlife- Environmental activity composed of planting new species in a damaged environmentally protected zone with Quiron Salud (private health company)
  4. Day at the Farm with youth at risk of social exclusion- A fun outing with kids that are currently living in youth centres managed by the local government. The objective was to provide them with an opportunity for leisure that was also educational. This activity was undertaken with Santa Lucia Seguros (insurance company)
  5. Serigraphy Workshop with Down Madrid Foundation- Educational Workshop with Adults with Down Syndrome on silk-screen (serigraphy) printing. This activity was developed with volunteers from MSD (Pharmaceutical Company)
  6. Cultural Visits with the Elderly- MSD and Reale participated in two different cultural visits with elder people that live in full-care homes with the objective of providing leisure opportunities where the beneficiaries were able to develop relationships with others.
  7. Football Tournament in Prison- A group of volunteers from Reale organized a Football tournament in Picassent prison in Valencia as a way to support inmates in having leisure activities at the same time, as they were able support the development of social skills necessary to reintegrate into society once they have served their sentence.
