Engaging Business Leaders in Strategic Community Investment
Canadian Business for Social Responsibility’s (CBSR) Seeing is Believing program brings business leaders on half-day study tours of community organizations, providing a first hand look at some of Canada’s most pressing social issues. The program helps senior business executives reconsider corporate philanthropy and focus on capacity building through strategic community investment practices.
The release of the 2008 Seeing is Believing Annual Review highlights the powerful impact of the program over the past year. The program was launched nationally. And to help guide the program, CBSR established an Advisory Board and was granted patronage by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada.
By the numbers:
5 tours were held
4 cities were visited across Canada
9 tour leaders
68 corporate participants
17 community organizations visited
12 media mentions
21 post-tour outcomes
Tour outcomes showed the program’s potential to leverage business resources. For example, Vancouver Film School offered a scholarship to a youth from Directions Youth Services Centre. And Alterna Savings committed to providing workshops and informational interviews to clients of Times Change Women’s Employment Service.
