“A new era for development: The changing role & responsibilities of business in developing countries” – Call for Contributions for EABIS 10th Annual Colloquium taking place at INSEAD on 26-28 October 2011.

The 2011 Colloquium will focus on the changing role of business in developing countries. A recent report by World Bank Vice President Otaviano Canuto argues that developing countries will be engines of growth and could carry the world economy in the future, provided they have a clear strategy. If so, there may be enormous opportunities for companies lying ahead but not without addressing two major development related challenges:

  • How to define strategies and partnerships that enhance the stability and sustainability of business and market development;
  • and How to deliver profitable products and services in developing countries, building on synergies in product development and fulfillment across countries, but also accounting for national and regional differences and constraints.

The INSEAD-EABIS Programme Committee invites abstracts that focus on one or more of the following issues in development and/or developing countries:

  • Research into the role and responsibilities of business in addressing any dimension of the sustainability and/or development agenda;
  • Studies of company performance and impact – economic, social & environmental;
  • Analysis of political / regulatory / industry frameworks, mechanisms & instruments that promote sustainable development and their implications for business;
  • Case studies of business innovation around sustainability issues – strategy, new products & services, HRM & training, governance, NGO partnerships, etc.

As in previous years, we welcome contributions from business, academia, policy making, consulting and civil society organizations. In line with EABIS’ unique model, we especially encourage joint presentations of collaborative work between companies and research institutions.

Please download here the Call and Submission Guidelines. The deadline for submissions is close of business on Friday 20 May 2011. All submissions need to be uploaded through the INSEAD Colloquium website.
