Endorsed by the UN Human Rights Council in June 2011, the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights seek to provide, for the first time, an authoritative global standard for preventing and addressing the risk of adverse human rights impacts linked to business activity.
The unanimous endorsement of the Guiding Principles by the UN Human Rights Council provided well timed guidance on the respective duties and responsibilities of states and businesses towards human rights. The Guiding Principles are informing national and international initiatives such as the European Commission’s new corporate responsibility policy and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. It is therefore vital for BITC members to consider what this means for them.
BITC is running a workshop to explore the implications for business of the Guiding Principles, in partnership with DLA Piper and Allen & Overy. This workshop will provide the initial top level introduction to the Guiding Principles, an overview of the implications for business and scope areas that businesses may want to explore further.
Time: 10:00 to 16:00
Cost: No charge for BITC members / £199 plus VAT for non-members of BITC
